Correct strap adjustment is the single most important factor for comfort, safety, and performance.
Straps that are too loose will feel weak or unresponsive. Straps that are too tight can cause discomfort or restrict movement.
This guide helps you find the "just right" fit.
Before you start
- Stand upright against a wall or next to a chair for balance.
- Wear thin to medium‑thickness pants (jeans or thick sweatpants may require looser adjustment).
- Make sure the exosuit is powered off during adjustment – you only power on after everything is strapped in place.
💡 First time? Allow 10–15 minutes for your first fitting. It gets faster with practice.
Step 1: Understand the strap system
Most lower‑body exosuits have three critical strap zones:
| Strap zone | Location | What it does |
| Waist belt | Around your lower abdomen / hips | Transfers load from the exosuit to your core. The most important strap. |
| Left thigh strap | Upper leg, just below the hip joint | Guides the left leg during swing phase. |
| Right thigh strap | Upper leg, just below the hip joint | Guides the right leg during swing phase. |
Some models also have calf or shin straps – apply the same principles below.
Step 2: Adjusting the length of the Exo-belt or replace the leg straps

Disassembly and assembly the belt hinge: remove the two screws, then take out the pin.
- Replace the leg straps

The medium size is pre-installed on the device. Three sizes are available: large, medium, and small. Choose the strap size that fits your thigh circumference.
Step 3: Tighten the waist belt first (the anchor)
The waist belt is the foundation. Everything else depends on it.
How to tighten
- Pull the free end of the strap until you feel even pressure around your lower abdomen / hip bones.
- The belt should sit just above your hip bones (iliac crest), not around your natural waist.
The "finger test" for waist tightness
| Result | What it means | Action |
| You can slip 2 fingers between the belt and your body | ✅ Perfect – tight enough to transfer load, loose enough to breathe comfortably | Keep it |
| You can slip 4+ fingers or the belt slides down | ❌ Too loose – the exosuit will feel weak or laggy | Tighten more |
| You cannot insert 1 finger or it feels hard to breathe | ❌ Too tight – may cause skin irritation or restrict movement | Loosen slightly |
⚠️ Do not over‑tighten the waist belt. The exosuit assists your legs – it does not need to squeeze your ribs. If you feel the load is too heavy, you can use it with Support Harness.
Step 4: Tighten the thigh straps (left and right)
Once the waist belt is secure, tighten each thigh strap.
How to tighten
- Rotate the ETIE knob to tighten the straps, making them fit snugly against the upper thigh.
- The exosuit leg should move with your leg – not lag behind or press into one spot.
The "one finger" test for thigh straps
| Result | What it means | Action |
| You can slip 1 finger between the strap and your thigh | ✅ Perfect – secure but not constricting | Keep it |
| The strap spins or slides down when you lift your leg | ❌ Too loose – the exosuit won't assist properly | Tighten more |
| You feel a hard pressure point or your toes tingle | ❌ Too tight – may compress nerves or blood flow | Loosen immediately |
🧠 Important: Thigh straps should be snug – tighter than the waist belt, but never painful.
Step 5: Perform the "lift and shake" test
After both thigh straps are tightened, do this quick test before powering on:
- Lift one knee toward your chest (as if taking a step).
- The exosuit leg should rise with your leg without slipping or twisting.
- Gently shake your leg side to side – the cuff should stay in place.
| Result | What it means |
| The exosuit leg moves exactly with your leg | ✅ Correct adjustment |
| The exosuit leg lags behind or drops down | ❌ Thigh straps too loose |
| The cuff digs painfully into one spot | ❌ Strap is uneven or too tight |
Repeat for the other leg.
Step 6: Final check – power on and walk a few steps
Now it's time to confirm the fit under actual use.
- Power on the exosuit (hold power button until white LED, then release).
- Once the LED turns green (wear detected), take 5–10 slow steps.
- Pay attention to:
| Sensation | What it means | Action |
| Smooth, natural assistance – you barely notice the straps | ✅ Perfect fit | You're ready for longer walks |
| The exosuit feels "weak" or doesn't help enough | ❌ Straps too loose (usually waist or thigh) | Tighten all straps one notch and retest |
| A specific spot feels painful or numb | ❌ Strap too tight or misaligned | Loosen that strap slightly and reposition |
| The exosuit slides down your body | ❌ Waist belt too loose | Tighten waist belt first, then thighs |
📝 Note: It may take 2–3 adjustments to find your ideal fit. This is normal.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
| Mistake | Why it's a problem | Fix |
| Waist belt worn too high (around stomach) | Slides down, poor load transfer | Reposition just above hip bones |
| Thigh straps too loose | Exosuit lags, feels weak | Tighten until the cuff rises with your leg |
| One strap tighter than the other | Asymmetric assistance, possible walking imbalance | Check and equalize both sides |
| Straps twisted | Pressure points, uneven wear | Untwist so the strap lies flat |
| Tightening while sitting | Fit changes when you stand | Always do final adjustment while standing |
Quick reference – tightness summary
| Strap | Ideal tightness | Test |
| Waist belt | Snug, not squeezing | 2 fingers between belt and body |
| Thigh straps | Firm, no slipping | 1 finger between strap and thigh |
| Calf / shin straps (if present) | Lightly snug – less than thighs | Strap stays put but doesn't indent skin |
When to re‑adjust
- Every time you put on the exosuit – your clothing thickness changes.
- After 10–15 minutes of walking – straps naturally loosen slightly. Re‑tighten as needed.
- If you lose or gain more than 5 kg (10 lbs) – revisit your fit.
- If you feel new pressure points or numbness – stop and adjust immediately.
Safety reminder
⚠️ Never ignore pain or numbness caused by straps.
A poorly adjusted exosuit can cause skin breakdown, nerve compression, or falls.
If you cannot achieve a comfortable fit after 3 attempts, contact support for guidance – do not force use.
